The HID Y-SNP Research Panel v1 examines Y-chromosomal SNPs to investigate paternal lineages. It adds a different type of information from routine autosomal STR profiling.
Haplogroup assignments depend on the marker design, reference tree and analysis version. Male relatives can share a paternal lineage, so a lineage result alone does not uniquely identify a person.
